The renaming of the ministry was announced on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu.
It stated that the Trade and Commerce part of the ministry will be based in the Governor's office until further notice.
According to the SSG, the reorganisation is effective immediately.
According to him, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry shall be referred to as the Commissioner for Industry from now on.
"By implication, all trade and commerce efforts should be directed to the Governor's office."
"This decision is intended to allow the Ministry of Industry to focus on the governor's industrialisation strategy and to improve performance," it stated.
