He stated that the training would provide participants with the skills and knowledge required for accurate reporting and effective media service delivery, as well as challenge journalists in the state to be professional, emphasising that the media profession requires practitioners to be prudent, disciplined, intellectually competent, and of good conduct in their daily assignments.

In his remarks, the state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, thanked the state government for sponsoring the workshop.

He said that the knowledge acquired from the workshop would help enhance the service delivery of the participants in the modern digital era.

He further said, "The theme of this workshop, "Upgrading Strategic Communication Competences in the Digital Era," is germane as we work within the 21st century, characterised by dexterity in information and communication technology (ICT).

"It is appropriate because media practitioners must be trendy and flow with the tides of the times," he continued.
"There is a need to embrace the skills of the digital age in order to transact in digital trends for effective media delivery." This will also help in preparing each and every one for higher roles and better relevance going forward.
