Mr Nwonu popularly known as Anatex is a two-term federal lawmaker elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He contested the governorship primary election on the platform of the PDP but lost before he decamped to the APGA to seek re-election to the green chambers.
Speaking with Journalists in Abakaliki on Monday, Mr Nwonu whose candidacy is being challenged at the Supreme Court by his rival, Hon. Ben Nwaobasi, said he was optimistic about his victory in the end.
"You know, I ran for governor on the platform of the PDP, and at the end of the day, they did it as it were," he said.
"For now, I’m going to run for election; I’m still in the Supreme Court with my friend and brother, for the House of Representatives seat under the platform of APGA.
"By the special grace of God, in a week or two, there will be a judgement on that, and I will kick off my campaign." "I'm returning to represent my people," he said.
Nwonu said he remained the best choice amongst contestants from other political parties vying for the same position due to his performances over the years.
"I have performed very well; even the campaign going on in my favour is from my supporters, who are doing it freely."
"How can you compare me with those people? It’s like comparing a lion with a rat; even if I’m in party Z, I will beat them." he said.
He expressed optimism that the general elections would hold irrespective of the security challenges and commended the leadership of the National Assembly for their contributions towards nation-building and security.
