He clarified this in a statement released yesterday by Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Director of Strategic Engagement for the Abia PDP Campaign Council.
As a tribute to our dearly deceased brother, the statement read: "I thus command that all flags in Abia State PDP offices be lowered and flown at half mast while all campaign activities for the party at all levels be paused until Monday."
The governor "is still a principled member of G-5 even though he did not attend," according to the statement. Be aware that although the Enugu gathering qualifies as a "campaign activity," Ikpeazu is still a G5 member with integrity and a PDP leader.
He will keep going to events both inside and outside the state that have nothing to do with the campaign. At the moment, neither Ikpeazu nor any other well-meaning member of our political family, nor Abians in general, are in the mood for a political meeting.
The governor and other elected officials, however, are free to go to other activities that are not tied to the election, the statement claims.
